There’s been a real sea change in the public view of eating meat. As developing countries start to consume more meat, so many in the developed world are starting to cut back. The reasons are many and varied but boil down to three areas – health, cost and the environment.
There’s been a huge amount of publicity recently about various athletes who’ve decided to follow a gluten-free diet. They swear their performance is better for it. Now, we’re not party to the likes of Novak Djokovic’s medical notes, but we presume most of the gluten-free athletes have not been diagnosed as coeliac.
After unsuccessfully trying to fit into a ‘one-size-fits-all’ hat this winter it got us wondering: is there such a thing as a one-size-fits-all romantic meal?
After a completely unscientific poll of friends and team members, we’ve come up with at least three styles of ‘perfect romantic evening’.
A little while ago, lots of us decided to aim for a meat-light diet. We thought that, for our own health and the health of the planet, we’d eat less meat and more plants. In the summer, this went swimmingly. The table was overflowing with the brightest and freshest produce, from aubergines to tomatoes, courgettes to cucumbers. In winter, it’s easy to lose heart slightly, assuming there’ll be nothing but cabbage soup for three months. Not a bit of it! Winter vegetable dishes can be just as satisfying as their summer cousins.
